Howdy!

Savor the hors d'oeuvres. Let me know how did you like 'em :)

Savannah is ... a poem

Forsyth Park, Savannah

Forsyth Park, Savannah

A romantic land; dainty Spanish moss draping southern live oaks
A walk in the park; fountains and pretty flowers around every block

An old world charm; cobblestones dotting the historic downtown
A pretty face; Colonial and Victorian architecture all around

A feast; Shrimp and grits, fried chicken, mouth - watering southern treats  for the soul
A delicious affair; if only one could guiltless-ly eat it all!

A sad history beneath a pretty face; famines, plagues, wars, murders and duels!
A store-house of ghost tales; the undead haunting the city (creeping us mere mortals)!

A cornucopia of pleasantness; an enriching experience
A paradise on earth; a treasure, a gem in every sense!

Savannah is ... a rich-in-variety bucket list

For me, Savannah's resistance to change was its saving grace. The city looked inward, sealed off from the noises and distractions of the world at large. It grew inward, too, and in such a way that its people flourished like hothouse plants tended by an indulgent gardener. The ordinary became extraordinary. Eccentrics thrived. Every nuance and quirk of personality achieved greater brilliance in that lush enclosure than would have been possible anywhere else in the world.”

Without a particular agenda in mind, and with resources such as the internet and the locals, the husband and I were able to devise a diverse itinerary for ourselves. We slept peacefully at the end of each day, delighted and contented.

  • Tybee Island - A scenic island, 20-minute drive from historic downtown, provides joy in the form of a beach lined with pretty beach-houses, Dolphin-watching off the coast , Tybee Island Light House, Cockspur Island Light House
  • Savannah River Street - Walk on cobblestone paths, watch ships from across the globe dock at Savannah river port
  • City squares - A walkable historic downtown provides tourists an opportunity to admire its various squares (22) surrounded by beautiful architecture and canopied by moss- draped southern live oaks. Broughton St., flanked by shops on either side, is a treat for shopaholics.
  • Georgia Rail road Museum - If trains and history excite you, this is your (real) utopia!
  • Savannah City Market - Treat your eyes to art, and your tummies to  drool-worthy delights. (We stopped by at the Pie Society and gobbled up a chicken curry pasty, and a slice of Victoria sponge cake, and we were not sorry at all!)
  • Haunted house ghost tours - Not for the faint soul like me. Nonetheless,  check this off your list; our guide was an amazing story-teller!
  • Wormsloe Historic Site - Dreamy and romantic, this site is flanked on two sides by a canopy of live oaks and Spanish moss, and is picturesquely breath-taking in its own right!

Savannah is ... a gastronomic delight

If you are looking for cocktails made right, small bites of deliciousness, home-style Italian fares, home-style southern fares, dessert heaven, or all of them, or even more, Savannah has got it all! The husband and I wanted to visit a ton of places for an intense gastronomic experience, but we had to make some tough choices and restrict ourselves to not more than four meals a day. Here is a list of places where we ate our hearts out, guiltless-ly!
